The Narcissistic Process:
A Perspective from Relational
and Integrative Psychotherapy
Richard G. Erskine, Ph.D.
Sponsored by I.AN.T.I. Integrative Transactional Analisys Institute, Rome
The psychotherapy of Narcissistic dynamics often revolves around the client's relational dilemma whether "to need or not to need". This di-lemma results in behavioral characteristics of extreme self-involvement, grandiosity, an absence of empathy and a lack of interest in others, even while others are being used to obtain approval and admiration.
In this workshop we will distinguish between a narcissistic Style, Pat-tern, and a Personality Disorder. We will also discuss the "closet narcis-sist" - the client who is covertly self-centered while acting shy, timid, and ineffective. Dr. Erskine will teach about the aetiology, intrapsychic conflicts, and the relational methods necessary in an effective psycho-therapy of clients with issues of Narcissistic processing.
This workshop is designed for psychotherapists and counsellors who want to achieve excellence in using a Relational perspective in their ther-apeutic work. Participants are invited to bring cases for discussion.
